Interns spend approximately 12 weeks working alongside leading experts in government and academia from all over the world. Brookings also offers students the opportunity to intern in departments such as communications, human resources and central operations management. The mission of the Internship Program is to provide students with a pre-professional learning experience that offers meaningful, practical work experience related to their field of study or career interest. Students engage in career exploration and development as well as learn new skills.
Interns will have the opportunity to attend virtual meetings, think tank events, professional development workshops, and public Brookings events. In addition, interns will have the opportunity to network with other interns throughout the Institution.
This internship is an opportunity for students to apply principles and theory learned in the classroom in a professional environment. This internship pays an hourly rate of $17.50, and applicants must be willing to commit to a minimum number of hours per week (no less than 20 hours per week, during regular business hours), with some flexibility around an academic course schedule.

Position Location: This position is open to hybrid and/or remote applicants. Hybrid work combines regular in-person presence at our Washington, DC, office with the option of remote work. Remote work applicants may not work from the following states: Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Michigan, Oregon, Rhode Island, and Washington.

The intern will join the Center for Universal Education team to support collaborative and participatory research informed by feminist and decolonial approaches to development. This research is carried out in deep partnership with multiple organizations focused on gender and education, in more than a dozen countries in the Global South. The intern will gain exposure to a broad set of policy topics while developing their analytical thinking, organizational, and writing skills. Applicants should expect a range of responsibilities, broadly defined under the following categories:
General Research and Writing: The intern will conduct background research on topics relevant to gender and education, collaborative, inclusive, and decolonial approaches to research and practice in international development, and transformative education policy and practice. The intern will support drafting summaries of research findings that may be used in blog posts, presentations, or reports.
Administration: The intern will help organize and input data into databases and support virtual meetings, workshops, events and presentations of the Learning and Action Alliance on Girls Agency (LAAGA). The intern will assist with designing and evaluating workshops and meetings.
Education/Knowledge/Skills:
Undergraduate students in their sophomore, junior or senior year or MA/MSc students completing a degree in a relevant field (i.e. education, human rights, political science, international relations, development, public policy, sociology, anthropology, humanities, or related fields). Applicants must have prior experience either through coursework, previous internships or positions in conducting literature searches and reviews. Must have a strong interest in social justice, human rights, gender, and/or global education and development, research and academic and non-academic knowledge, and strong written communication skills. Experience in educational research, teaching and/or working internationally, and/or inclusion and equity is a plus.

This internship requires you to be located in the U.S. for the duration of the internship.
Successful completion of a background investigation is required for interning at Brookings.
