  • Overview

    This fall internship, beginning in September 2018, is a paid opportunity for undergraduate students in their junior year or senior year, recent college graduates or graduate students with an interest in gaining experience and contributing to the work at the world’s leading think tank. 

    This internship pays an hourly rate of $13.25, and applicants must be willing to commit to a minimum number of hours per week (no less than 20 hours per week, during regular business hours), with some flexibility around an academic course schedule. The internship will last approximately 10 weeks.


    The communications intern is tasked with supporting the development of Brookings Metro’s communications products, including blogs, reports, research briefs, and social media. In particular, the communications intern will provide support on copy editing, general research, and administrative tasks.

    Interns will have the opportunity to attend internal meetings, local think tank events, professional development workshops, and public Brookings events as well as participate on Brookings sports teams and network with other interns throughout the Institution.




    Graduate or undergraduate students (who have completed their sophomore year) and recent college graduates are eligible to apply. Our most successful interns possess the following skills: Excellent writer and editor, strong attention to detail, social media experience, research capabilities, ability to work in fast paced environment, strong multi-tasking skills and ability to meet tight deadlines, capacity to perform well in team and individual settings, understanding of newsworthiness of key research, and interest in public policy.

    Successful completion of a background investigation is required for interning at Brookings.
