Overview

This summer internship, beginning in June 2018, is a paid opportunity for undergraduate students in their junior year or senior year, recent college graduates or graduate students with an interest in communications or economics.

This internship pays an hourly rate of $13.25, and applicants must be willing to commit to a minimum number of hours per week (no less than 20 hours per week, during regular business hours), with some flexibility around an academic course schedule. The internship will last approximately 10 weeks.

Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities

 

The communications intern will support the work of the Communications Director, Media Relations Manager, and Web and Social Media Specialist .

 

Responsibilities will include developing and updating media lists; analyzing media coverage; drafting tweets and other content for social media and newsletters; copy editing reports and website content; providing support with event coordination; assisting staff throughout the program with communications-related tasks  and completing other office support duties as assigned.

 

The Communications Intern will gain exposure to a range of policy issues while developing their communications, writing, and events skills. Applicants should expect a range of responsibilities, broadly defined under the following categories:

 

Communications Outreach

The intern will provide support Economic Studies’ traditional and social media engagement efforts.

 

Event Support

The intern will provide support for Economic Studies public forums.

 

Office Support

Applicants should be prepared to help with general office support.


Interns will have the opportunity to attend internal meetings, local think tank events, professional development workshops, and public Brookings events as well as participate on Brookings sports teams and network with other interns throughout the Institution.

Qualifications

Education/Skills/Experience

 

Undergraduate students in their junior year or senior year, recent college graduates or graduate students pursing an undergraduate degree in journalism, communications or marketing, political science, economics, or similar fields are encouraged to apply. Applicants should have strong writing and communications skills. Prior public affairs, communications, or event coordination experience is desired. 

 

A successful applicant will have a strong team work ethic and a belief that no task is too big or too small.

 

Additional Information:

Successful completion of a background investigation is required for interning at Brookings.
